Kaunas Tadas Ivanauskas progymnasium was established in 1985. At that time it was named Kaunas 47th secondary school. In 1996 school was named Kaunas Šilainiai secondary school. By the decision of Kaunas City Municipality Council in 2009 the name of the school is changed to Kaunas Tadas Ivanauskas secondary school. Since 2013-2014 academic year(AY), according to the school network restructuring plan, the school became progymnasium.
The school holds a lot of various events, some of which have been in school for many years. State celebrations, Dance fiesta, Kaziukas fair, Community Sports Celebration, Celebration of Talented and Top students – these are some of constantly ongoing events. School pupils are participants and winners of various international, republican and city competitions. The school regularly participates in international Erasmus + projects.
At present the progymnasium runs pre-primary, primary and basic education (Part I) programs. In recent years, the number of students has been steadily increasing (980 pupils in 2023-2024). In 2023-2024AY, progymnasium formed 39 classes. The headteacher of progymnasium is Sigitas Alubauskas.
